Following the men’s lead, the women will receive their own version of the Finalissima, a competition between the European and South American champions. UEFA announced this on Thursday in association with the South American Federation CONMEBOL.
The winner of the upcoming European Championships in England, including Orange, will compete with the new Copa America Femina. That game will take place in Europe, but where and when has not yet been determined.
Argentina’s men’s team won the final for the first time on Wednesday evening. The South American title winner defeated Lionel Messi 3-0 in Italy.
This is the third time in history that champions from South America and Europe have clashed. There was a battle for the Artemio French Cup in 1985 and 1993, but it is not yet a true tradition.
UEFA also announces competitions between the youth and the continents in Futsal. In addition, the two football associations want to exchange knowledge about coaching and referee training.
The Orange Women are the reigning champions at the European Championships on July 6-31. Coach Mark Parsons’ team plays in the team stage against Sweden, Switzerland and Portugal. The Copa America Femina tournament also concludes in July.
