Qatar has qualified for the quarter-finals of the Gold Cup football tournament. Mexico won their last group game 0-1. America has also passed.
Qatar lost their Gold Cup opener 2-1 to Haiti before drawing 1-1 against Honduras. A spot in the quarterfinals isn’t immediately up for grabs with opponents Mexico, but it’s becoming more of a reality. Qatar, who hosted the World Cup at the end of last year, won through Hazem Ahmed Sheheta’s goal after 27 minutes of play. Mexico’s goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa is not looking good.
In the closing stages, Mexico had enough chances to prevent Qatar from winning, but came up short. However, both countries advance to the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup: Mexico as group winners, Qatar in second place. Honduras won 2-1 against Haiti but went out on goal difference.

The U.S. has already played against St. Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago in the second group game: again it’s 6-0. It was already 3-0 with Jesus Ferreira’s hat-trick in the 45th minute. In the second half, Kate Cowell, Gianluca Puccio and Brandon Vazquez also managed to score a goal, making the decision for Trinidad and Tobago, once the national coach of Leo Beanhacker, even more painful.
The USA and Jamaica advanced to the quarterfinals with seven points from the group stage. After a 0-0 draw against Guatemala, Canada will have to work even harder to continue. They are third in the group with two points from two games. Guadalupe leads with four points.
