Today the Minister of Education, Culture and Science Robbert Dijkgraaf visited VISTA College, Zuyd Hogeschool and the University of Maastricht.
The Minister is on a national tour to find out what is going on in Dutch vocational and higher education. Internationalization is an important point for Maastricht as a border region. Students who study in the region have plenty of opportunities to do internships in other countries, for example. The minister just applauds her.
Minister Maastricht is a textbook example of a region where internationalization is doing well. “Maastricht is, of course, a border region, so it is easy to establish cooperation in a very natural way.” Is there also no danger in cooperating with educational institutions across borders? Specifically intended to strengthen the area and retain talent, it can also sometimes ensure that students who remain abroad will stay there. But Robert Dijkgraf sees this as no problem. “You always have this opportunity. But look at me, I am living proof that people are coming back. In the end, this only gives an extra impact on Dutch education. And that’s what we want.”
