Greatest Origin tries No.8: Locky from long range

Josh Morris’ try for NSW in the 2015 series opener – set up by a James Tamou offload, a Josh Dugan break and a brilliant kick ahead by the fullback – was one of the greatest in State of Origin history.

In the week leading up to game two, we’re counting down the top 10 tries in Origin’s 35 seasons – and it wasn’t an easy task whittling down such a huge field of contenders!

No.8 in the countdown kick-started one of Queensland’s most memorable series triumphs.

Destroyed 3-0 in the 2000 series, the new-look Maroons began their vital ’01 campaign in the best possible style, with Darren Lockyer and Lote Tuqiri engineering an incredible 80-metre try from a kick-return in just the second minute of the opening match.

Queensland, with 10 debutants on board, went on to record an emphatic 34-16 victory in that encounter, before sealing an emotional series success with a 40-14 result in the game three decider following Allan Langer’s shock return.
