Flashback Friday: Hayne & Tahu's 110m special

Manly and Parramatta go head-to-head in a crucial clash at Brookvale Oval on Sunday, with the Sea Eagles clinging to an unlikely finals dream and the Eels done and dusted as far as the top eight is concerned … and Jarryd Hayne some 12,000 km away in San Francisco blowing people’s minds in the NFL pre-season.

Flashback Friday is taking you back five years to when Manly-Parramatta grudge matches were Hayne’s bread and butter.

After 51 minutes of their Round 2 clash in 2010, the Sea Eagles had scorched out to a 20-0 lead over the Eels, who had ridden Hayne’s brilliance to the previous year’s Grand Final.

But the game-breaking fullback sparked one of the great modern-day comebacks, including setting up this 110-metre special – finished off by Timana Tahu – after taking a pressure pass in his own in-goal.

It’s not hard to see why he’s been an early success in 49ers kit.

Hayne didn’t stop there, however, laying on two further tries to spearhead a phenomenal 24-20 victory – after which Manly coach Des Hasler infamously ripped the door of the Parramatta Stadium visitors’ dressing room off the hinges.
