Williams offers free F2 Driver Sergeant training in the US

Williams Junior Logan Sargent is allowed to get behind the wheel of the Williams FW44 for the first free practice session in his home country of the United States. He is the first American driver to win a Formula 1 weekend since 2015.

Formula 1 teams have had to give rookies a chance at two free practice sessions from this season. In keeping with that rule, Williams has decided to let Logan Sgt run free practice in Austin. The Williams Academy driver is enjoying an excellent debut season in Formula 2. The 21-year-old American has two wins, two podiums and two pole positions to his name.

Sargent finished third in the Formula 2 championship and is seen as one of the favorites to replace the disappointing Nicolas Latifi at Williams’ Formula 1 team. That first free training is already the preparation for such a possible step.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to do my first free practice session in Austin,” said Sgt. “Having this opportunity at the US Grand Prix is very special. I want to say a big thank you to Williams for believing in me that I can do well. My aim will be to learn as much as possible on the new generation of cars. “I’m looking forward to taking advantage of this experience and really enjoying it,” Williams Jr. said.

Sergeant Nicolas will take over from Nicolas Latifi in free training as Alexander Alban had to give up his seat to Nyck de Vries for sixty minutes at Barcelona earlier this year.
