The Dutch team secured its victory in the group by winning. The Dutch national team also won the previous matches against Spain, Slovakia and Estonia. The team will conclude the group stage on Wednesday with a match against Finland, after which the tournament will continue in Italy and Belgium. The Netherlands will play the eighth final match in Florence against the fourth-placed team in Group B with Italy, Bulgaria, Romania, Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.
The Dutch team, which has not yet dropped a group in Estonia, also started well against France. After an exciting final stage, the No. 4 in the previous European Championship won the first set 25-23. France also led several times in the second set, but the Netherlands turned the group in its favor again: 27-25.
The Dutch team also showed flexibility in the third group. France led 15-10, but the Netherlands regained control with four consecutive points. However, the French took the lead again and did not give up their lead this time: 21-25.
The fourth group followed the same path as the first two groups. France achieved a difference of four points (21-17), before the Dutch team tied again moments later, with a score of 23-23. Thanks to a block from Marit Jaspers, the Netherlands reached 24-23, but France managed to put away the first match point. Jasper had their second match point moments later: 26-24.
“We knew we were going to face a team with technical skills and full of passion,” star Celeste Black said afterwards. “We needed something extra for it, and today it was the bench that helped us keep fighting, keep believing, and it made the difference. That was really what you call a team effort.”
