US Vice President Harris attends the climate summit instead of Biden climate
US Vice President Kamala Harris will head to the climate summit in Dubai instead of President Joe Biden. That starts on Thursday. It was previously announced that Biden will not leave, but the reason is unknown.
Harris will join US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and climate envoy John Kerry at the two-week meeting. Harris is expected to address the summit later this week.
It was announced on Sunday that Biden would not attend the summit. According to the news agency Reuters The president must divide his time between the conflict in the Middle East and the upcoming elections.
The 81-year-old president’s agenda this week includes a meeting with Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço. He is also at the official lighting of the White House Christmas tree.
Several other government leaders are traveling to attend the climate summit this week. Leaders from nearly two hundred countries are expected to attend the conference, just like British King Charles. Pope Francis was also supposed to come, but had to cancel it due to health problems.
Dozens of countries want to reach an agreement in Dubai to phase out carbon dioxide emissions from coal, oil and gas.
