Tournament director Tommy Haas doesn’t understand Novak Djokovic’s absence from Indian Wells Masters. The world No. 1 Serbian player was not allowed to enter the United States because he was not vaccinated against the coronavirus.
“Very disappointed. I think America is the only country that still has restrictions where you can’t enter the country if you’re not vaccinated,” Haas said shortly after ‘his’ Masters tournament. According to a former professor from Germany, regulations in the US are outdated.
“Other professional athletes around the world have also decided not to vaccinate. We should stay off the course and let him play. I don’t see any reason and I’m very disappointed that he’s not here. Many people in the tennis world and we tried to get Djokovic to play here as a match, but in vain. .He’s the best player in the world. I think it’s sad. He also wrote to me how much he wished he was there.
Djokovic tried to get a takedown, but it was denied. He remains on the entry list for the Miami tournament in two weeks, but his chances of competing in Florida appear slim.
Djokovic, 35, has won the Indian Wells Masters five times. He last competed in California in 2019.
