This food will attract squirrels to your garden

The squirrel is active during the day and begins collecting food early in the morning. At the end of the day he again searches diligently for food. They are especially busy in the fall, because they have to gather more food for the winter. Squirrels love gardens that have plenty of hiding places and trees, preferably free of cats.

Natural food

Sometimes a squirrel eats a larva, a small insect, or an egg. But they prefer to eat simple plant foods. Squirrel List says:

  • Mushrooms
  • Nuts
  • the fruit
  • Berries
  • Seeds
  • Tree buds
  • barking

With this list, it’s no surprise that chipmunks love a tree-rich environment. Do you have sweet chestnuts, hazelnuts, oaks, beech or conifers in your garden? Then there’s a good chance some squirrels will hop around in the fall.

(Additional) Nutrition

To get some extra food, squirrels are happy to take some of the food away from the birds. They like a diverse menu. So you can feed the squirrels a little, for example:

  • Beech nut
  • Walnuts
  • raisins
  • Johannesbrod
  • hazelnut
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Unsalted Benda

These products are also available in ready-mixes from your pet food store. But be careful: Don’t forget that eating too much of the wrong food or products such as bread, crackers and milk can cause squirrels to become ill.
