The effects of America’s sand mining lake in Noordenveld on groundwater levels and nature are well known

Expansion of sand mining in Noordenveld municipality is affecting the groundwater table in the area. Its effects on nature are adequately described in the Annexure to the Environmental Impact Statement. This is what the Environmental Impact Assessment Committee says in its advisory. The Province of Trento The Commission had asked for an evaluation of the report and its annexure.

K3Delta BV intends to expand the existing American sand mining lake in the municipality of Noordenveld by 30 hectares and create about 10 hectares of new nature. Environmental impacts are examined in an environmental impact report before the municipal council makes a decision on the provincial and regional plan regarding mining permits. On the advice of the Commission, further research has been conducted on the impacts on groundwater levels and their impact on nature.

The accompanying report includes new measures to reduce impacts on groundwater. Effects on groundwater are quantified and what this means for existing nature is described. Effects are relatively minor, so good monitoring of groundwater and vegetation is sufficient. Keep surveillance measures in hand, the commission writes in its advisory.
