Now that more and more Samsung phones have received the major upgrade of One UI 6.1, high power consumption is still no exception. Even after weeks of installation, the battery seems to drain faster than One UI 6.0.
Battery drains faster after Samsung One UI 6.1 update
In recent weeks, Samsung has brought a number of software features from the Galaxy S24 to older devices. This One UI 6.1 upgrade appeared at the end of March on the Galaxy S23, Z Flip 5, Z Fold 5, and others, and last week, the Galaxy S22, S21, and Z Flip 4, among others.
With every major upgrade we mention that high battery consumption immediately after installation is not unusual, but it returns to normal over time. Unfortunately, this increased consumption seems to continue for weeks after the upgrade on some devices. The April update that has since arrived on phones did not improve anything.
Our friends from SamMobile Note this on different Flip and Fold models. We noted it ourselves in our Galaxy Z Fold 5 editorial. It also appears that some S23 variants are still affected – we only recently heard the complaint about the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
The picture is not yet clear for the S21 and S22 series, especially since that series was quickly updated with a newer security patch. Moreover, it has not even been a week since most of them installed the upgrade on those devices. This also applies to the Galaxy A54 and A34, of course, which received the update earlier this week.
What’s the solution?
We currently don’t know of a simple fix for high battery consumption with One UI 6.1. Samsung itself has not commented on this yet. A new firmware update will likely be required to fix bugs found in One UI 6.1.
What’s even more surprising is that the Galaxy S23, Z Flip 5, and Z Fold 5 haven’t received the May update yet. The South Koreans may be working on fixing some bugs, causing this monthly security update to arrive a little later than average. For now we have to wait for the next hardware update.
In the meantime, you can experiment Power saving mode (via Settings -> Device maintenance -> Battery). A factory reset may be a bit premature. Then wait and see if the next update brings improvement or not.
Have you installed the One UI 6.1 update on your Galaxy S21, S22, S23, Z Flip, or Fold? Is your phone also running out of power faster than before? Or do you not notice any difference in this area? What about the Galaxy A54 and A34?
