'Star tax specialist' arrested in Italy for extradition to US | Economy
Tax consultant Frank B. was arrested. Back in Italy to be extradited to the United States. US authorities suspect Afrojack and Tiesto's advisor, among others, of helping Dutch celebrities evade taxes.
The Italian police had already arrested B. In March, the tax expert has been under house arrest since then. But on Tuesday, the police came again to arrest him and extradite him to the United States.
His Dutch lawyer, Annabelle Visers, says: “I understood from his Italian lawyer that the arrest is linked to the alleged risk of flight. But this is of course complete nonsense, because he has been under house arrest for almost three months, which is very strict.” After reporting from FD.
B. Create tax structures for celebrities. Accordingly FDWhich is based on a US extradition request, and the Dutchman is suspected of thwarting the collection of taxes on $100 million (90 million euros).
Vissers' client denies this. He is said to have always acted within the rules when advising artists to settle on paper in other countries. “Precisely because his advice was due to loopholes in the law, resulting in artists having to deal with double taxation,” says B's lawyer.
The tax expert is not expected to be extradited to the United States immediately. The new arrest by the Italian police has initiated a procedure that may take some time.
The criminal investigation into B's case has been ongoing in the Netherlands for years, with the Financial Intelligence and Investigation Department (FIOD) raiding the tax consultant in March 2018. There has been no prosecution yet. In 2022, the case against B. Afrojack's client was dropped due to lack of evidence.
