Zalatores and Fitzpatrick started the last day of the US Open as leaders
08.43 amWill Zalatores and Matthew Fitzpatrick start the final day of the US Open as leaders in the standings. The 25-year-old American and the 27-year-old Englishman adapted better to the tough conditions in Brooklyn on the third day. Zalatores and Fitzpatrick, still waiting for their first big win, scored 207 hits.
Defending champion John Ram of Spain still has 208 strokes, and Scotty Scheffler, the American number 1 in the world, and Northern Ireland Rory McIlroy are still good for the overall victory with 209 strokes. Several golfers suffered from the strong wind.
Dutchman Will Besling withdrew after his third round. The 36-year-old North Hollander needed 77 strokes, seven above the track average. With that, he came in a total of nine strokes above the track average and fell to the joint 58th.
Besling first competed in the major in Brooklyn, Massachusetts. He cycled in 71 strokes the first day, one above the track average and repeated the next day. As a result, he went to the weekend in joint 40th place.
In the third round, Besling started with two ghosts and scored two more goals soon after. He hit a double bogey on the 10th hole and another bogey on the 12th hole. The golfer failed to hit the sparrows.
Besling just missed his first European Open title a week and a half ago when he finished second in Hamburg. In the German city, he reassured himself by participating in the US Open.
