Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 cameras: This has been improved
On paper, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 both have the same cameras as their predecessors. However, according to Samsung, the quality has improved. We list the changes.
Read on after the announcement.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 cameras: This has been improved
When Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5, we were terribly disappointed with one aspect: the cameras. The smartphone has exactly the same lenses as its predecessors. Flip 5 has a 12MP main camera and a 12MP wide-angle lens. It takes 10MP selfies.
The Fold 5 has three lenses on the back: a 50MP main camera, a 12MP wide-angle lens, and a 10MP telephoto lens. This magnifies 3x. There are also two selfie cameras: one in the screen on the outside (10 megapixels) and the other under the screen on the inside (4 megapixels).
So there is nothing new under the sun. However, Samsung promises that your photos and videos will look even better thanks to software improvements over the Flip 4 and Fold 4. We’ll guide you through that in this article. Do you want to know more about these smartphones? Then check out our reviews below.
Flexcam improvement
Thanks to Flexcam, you can use the cameras on the back of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 to take selfies. You can do this with the second, larger screen on the back. According to Samsung, these photos look better than before because the skin texture is more beautiful. Contrast will also be improved. In addition, you can now choose whether your selfies should have a natural or warm look.
You can also shoot better videos in low light. According to Samsung, the photos contain less noise than the ones on the Galaxy Z Flip 4.
The most beautiful selfies
Images taken with ‘normal’ selfie cameras on the Flip 5 and Fold 5 are enhanced in the same manner as described above. In addition, the AI software distinguishes between different parts of your face (such as the nose and ears) to perfect them individually. As a result, your selfies should look clearer and brighter.
Cameras can now also better appreciate what exactly is foreground and background. This way you get a nicer depth of field with natural blur. So your face stands out better in photos.
Finally, the selfie camera is below the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s large screen. And because it works through the pixels of the screen, photos look less detailed than usual. Samsung has played around with the software, which makes the end result even nicer. Not only will your footage be clearer, but it will also contain less noise.
Zoom in with less quality loss
As mentioned, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 has an optical zoom lens that brings the image closer 3x. Flip 5 lacks this camera. However, with both devices, you can zoom in digitally a bit. Samsung has also improved the software for this.
Missing information is estimated by AI as best as possible and then added to the image. This should again ensure less noise. There will also be more visual detail in the shots than before.
Better night photos
The Flip 5 and Fold 5 both run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. Once again, it’s slightly faster than its predecessor. As a result, night photos are processed faster and you don’t have to wait long for the final result. The new processor also ensures that the photos you take in low light look brighter than before. They also have, you guessed it, less noise than previous models.
Scan documents more easily
If you’ve ever scanned a document with your smartphone, you know that the result can sometimes be blurry. Because of a lack of light or simply because you didn’t keep your hands completely still. Samsung uses artificial intelligence to make dull characters sharp again, so you never have to try again.
Also useful: Have you been holding the document and are your fingers showing? You can now choose to remove it automatically.
Enhanced applications
Samsung has not only improved the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold Z 5 cameras, but also the camera apps. Due to the new Flip’s second, larger screen, the app can be expanded. In this way, you can easily switch between photo, photo and video mode.
Pro mode has been addressed in the camera app of the new Fold. Various functions such as ISO and shutter speed are now more visible and easier to adjust.
