Rike Hoffman is terrified of hair transplantation: 'The anesthesia didn't work'

During the podcast, Sam pointed out to listeners that Rike has a bandage on his head. “I went for a hair transplant yesterday,” Rike explains. “I've talked about it before, of course, but now it's actually happened. It was a much bigger operation than I expected. I thought: I'll be out in an hour. But I only work from 9:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m..”

This is not a complete transplant, Rake explains. “I was born with a bald spot on the side of my head. So just a spot with no hair. And I wanted to fill it in with hair.” In the weeks leading up to the operation, Reich had already received several injections into the bald area so that it would bleed well. “They say those injections are the most painful. It was really painful, but it wasn't too bad. So I had no nerves at all before this operation.”

When the big day comes, Rike doesn't worry, knowing he will be drugged and given a sleeping pill. However, at first he notices that it is painful. “But I didn't want to complain. So, at a certain point, I'd take a break, I'd eat something, and the sleeping pills and anesthesia would wear off.” If they continue after the break, he says it will be very painful. “Then they were sedated, but it didn't work. They had to do it four times.” In retrospect, Reich must conclude that this was a great disappointment to him. “It really felt like someone was putting a tattoo on my forehead.”
