Today, Princess Leonor, the eldest daughter of King Felipe and Queen Letizia, celebrates her eighteenth birthday. A special occasion does not go unnoticed in the Spanish capital, Madrid. Leonor’s parents also look on with great pride.
The Spaniards stood early all morning along the road in Madrid, where the birthday boy Leonor passed by this afternoon. They collectively wished her a happy birthday while singing. The crowd gathered in Puerta del Sol, Madrid’s central square. Next to Leonor and her family’s car, a number of members of the Spanish Royal Guard rode their horses.

And then… the swearing-in ceremony
After the royal procession through Madrid, Leonor arrives at the Spanish Parliament, which consists of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. There she takes the oath to the Constitution (strictly according to tradition). Exciting moment for this birthday boy. Fortunately, her parents are supporting her this afternoon and her sister, Princess Sofia, is also present.

Leonor has a beautiful moment with her parents
In between all the celebrations, a beautiful moment arises between Leonor and her parents. In the photo, her mother, Queen Letizia, brushes aside her daughter’s hair strands so that they fall properly again. When the princess’s ponytail hangs over a hanging medallion, another intimate moment ensues. King Felipe also adjusts her tail and then looks at her proudly. See for yourself.
