Police Chief Roberto Brady noted that crime in Suriname, with respect to certain criminal offenses, was showing a declining trend. At a press conference on Wednesday, the statistics were presented and made available to the media with the aim of informing the community about the situation.
Pride says crime is increasing almost every day. When we have a series of cases, whether it’s burglaries or burglaries, people tend to think that crime is on the rise. That’s why we provide the numbers,” Pride says.
The police chief acknowledges that some forms of crime are showing a slight increase, but overall he sees a downward trend. According to him, the decrease is due, among other things, to increased police surveillance and the contribution of the intelligence services. He says COVID-19 has also helped because people are not allowed to go outside after a certain time due to the lockdown.
