Peru won the South America World Travel Awards with awards in 4 categories, including being voted South America’s most important destination. In addition, the country has been chosen as South America’s leading cultural destination for the 7th year in a row.

It recognizes the country’s continuous efforts to preserve its heritage and cultural diversity and share it with the rest of the world.

The historic Inca sanctuary of Machu Picchu in the Cusco region has once again been voted “South America’s Leading Tourist Site”. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the first tourist destination to receive international carbon neutral certification.

Peru has been voted “South America’s Leading Culinary Destination”, reinforcing its position as the region’s gastronomic hub.

Since 2009, PROMPERÚ has been committed to promoting natural beauty, rich culture and excellent gastronomy. These four awards combine Peru’s cultural and culinary heritage. In December 2023, at the world edition of the World Travel Awards, Peru received three awards: the World’s Leading Culinary Destination and the World’s Leading Cultural Destination, while Lima was voted the World’s Leading Heritage City Destination. The World Travel Awards is a globally recognized award and is also known as the ‘Oscars of Tourism’.
