Singer and actor Olly Alexander, 33, will take part in the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of the UK next year. The news was announced Saturday evening on the British TV show “Stricly Come Dancing.”
“It's a dream come true”
The Years & Years frontman was previously mentioned as a potential Eurovision contender, but this has not been confirmed. Alexander announced the news himself on Saturday on a television broadcast of the dance show. “I love Eurovision so much, it's a dream come true,” he told host Claudia Winkelmann. “I'm just so excited.”
The singer added in a press release published after the announcement that he still finds it difficult to understand his participation. “I really can't believe I'll be part of this special tradition and wave the Great Britain flag in the most joyous way possible,” Ollie said. “I am determined to give it my all and deliver an excellent and unforgettable performance for all of you!”
The song that the artist will participate in has not yet been revealed, however BBC It was confirmed that it was co-written by Ollie himself and Danny L Harley, who has previously produced hits for Dua Lipa, Chic and Charli XCX. Alexander previously appeared as an actor in the critically acclaimed Channel 4 series It's a Sin.
The 2024 Eurovision Song Contest will be held on May 7, 9 and 11 in the Swedish city of Malmö. The last edition won for the second time with singer Lauren, this time with the song “Tattoo”.
