Myanmar army chiefs promise new elections

Myanmar military commander Min Aung Hlaing reiterated his commitment to holding the elections. He also promised to work with a special envoy from the Organization of Asian Nations, ASEAN.

Min Aung Hlaing made these pledges in a televised address, six months after the army had regained full power. The military coup came in the wake of elections won by the party of government leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Then she was arrested and has been imprisoned ever since On suspicion of corruption.
