LEGOLAND Windsor begins work on climate-neutral Woodland Village

LEGOLAND Windsor has begun construction on its first carbon-neutral facility, called Woodland Village.

With a planned reopening on Friday 17 March, LEGOLAND Windsor will soon be welcoming guests back in 2023. Looking ahead, work has begun on the UK’s first woodland-themed holiday village, which will be operationally carbon neutral. Prime Minister and former Maidenhead MP Theresa May joined LEGOLAND Windsor and Merlin Entertainments to celebrate construction work starting on the £35 million project.

The new property will open to the public in spring 2024 and will offer 150 lodges for accommodation in Phase 10 of the development. Guests will be able to stay in a forest-themed area, surrounded by nature on the 150-hectare property. Not only can you stay in the lodge, but there will also be several nature trails lined with brick-built animals, as well as entertainment areas, on-site restaurants, brick-building activities and a story area for younger visitors.

“The groundbreaking LEGOLAND Woodland Village project is a significant milestone in the history of one of the UK’s most beloved family theme parks,” said Helen Ball, Director of LEGOLAND Windsor Resort. “Our vision to create the first LEGO-themed Woodland Village is an innovative way to demonstrate how LEGOLAND Windsor Resort will continue to meet the growing needs of our guests and will be a major economic boost to the local area, providing high-quality, sustainable tourism for our future.”

Woodland Village will be powered by zero-carbon energy when completed, making it the first operationally carbon-neutral facility built by LEGOLAND owner Merlijn Entertainments. Merlijn Entertainment and LEGOLAND Windsor are working with the Carbon Trust to develop a robust carbon reduction plan, which will leverage low-carbon technologies, energy efficiency and high-quality offsets.

I write about the best fandoms, and that means LEGO, of course. Spending too much time researching and talking about LEGO sets is a risk to my bank balance, but LEGO shelves are booming. You win what you lose some.
