Kampen Theological University (TUK) was granted permission to move to Utrecht. Ingrid van Engelshofen, the outgoing Minister of Education, Culture and Science, has approved plans to relocate the university.
Moving theology programs from Kampen to Utrecht should ensure stronger contact and collaboration with other higher education institutions, TUK reports. There will be more study opportunities and it will be more attractive to students.
The central location in Utrecht also improves accessibility for many part-time students. This also applies to people who participate in TUK’s knowledge exchange programs for the national church community.
Planning
The council has indicated that it wants to start with first-year students in Utrecht from 1 September 2022. From then on, it will take a few more years before TUK fully moves to Utrecht. Students who have started their study program in Kampen can continue their studies there.
The board says it is pleased that there are no official obstacles to a move to Utrecht. She now has six months to make a final decision on the establishment of the university in Utrecht. More information about the decision should be announced this fall.
