Italian police arrest a man who gave his identity to the “bosses” of the Sicilian mafia | Abroad

A week after the controversial arrest of mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro (60 years old), today the Italian police arrested the man who lent his identity to the “boss of bosses”. Messina Denaro drove with a driver’s license in the name of Andrea Bonafede and carried an ID card in that name while she was undergoing cancer treatment in the hospital.

Bonafede was arrested last night in Sicily near the village of Campobello di Mazara, west of the Italian island. Investigators claim that he took 20,000 euros from Mafia boss Messina Denaro to buy a house in western Sicily. The house was one of the fugitive’s hideouts.

Messina Denaro eventually managed to escape the authorities for thirty years to stay. The police searched the house in question in Campobello de Mazara, as well as two other homes in that location. According to the researchers, Messina Denarau has been training in it for the past few months.

In issuing a warrant for Bonafide’s arrest, Judge Alfredo Montalto said the man was suspected of being a member of Cosa Nostra, as the Sicilian mafia is known. It is said that he helped Messina Denaro in his role as a big mafia boss. Thanks to Bonafede’s permission for the fugitive mafia boss to use his identity, the Italian “was able to move around (Italian) territory, evading law enforcement and gaining access to the national healthcare system without revealing his true identity.” Associated Press, read the accusations in the memo.

Identification card

Messina Denaro was arrested last week in a private clinic in Palermo. ‘U Siccu’ (The Skinny) has undergone treatment for colon cancer. He used an ID with Bonafede’s name on it, but with a picture of himself. With a false identity, he was registered in the clinic.

A few days after his arrest, the police found in a private car park in Campobello di Mazara a black Alfa Romeo that Messina Denaro allegedly bought in Palermo and drove. He did so with Bonafede’s ID and driver’s license and apparently felt safe enough to move about in Sicily. Air tickets were also found during home searches, which allegedly showed that the mafia boss had traveled abroad several times.

Another big mafia boss

Messina Denaro is considered the last of the great mafia bosses. Before him, Bernardo Provenzano and Toto led Reina Cosa Nostra. Messina Denaro is also responsible, among other things, for the attacks on magistrates Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino in the spring of 1992. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.

The ringleader was also sentenced to life imprisonment for the bombings in Florence, Rome and Milan, which killed ten people in 1993. He was also convicted of kidnapping, torturing for two years and then finally killing a boy, Giuseppe Di Matteo. He was killed and dissolved in acid because his father testified against the mafia.

Despite his long disappearance, Messina Denaro was still able to control the mafia in the area around the Sicilian city of Trapani. The Italian police announced this in September last year. It is expected that Cosa Nostra will continue as an organization after the arrest of the mafia boss and will not be paralyzed.
