Danish Prince Christian celebrated his 18th birthday in Copenhagen on Sunday. The ceremony was attended by many representatives of other royal houses, such as Princess Amalia. At the evening party, he gave a speech to his guests.
In addition to Amalia, Princess Elisabeth of Belgium and Princess Alexandra of Norway were also among those in attendance at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen.
In his speech, Christian thanked his parents, Crown Prince Frederick and Crown Princess Mary for their support, and also thanked his grandmother, Queen Margaret, for her “kind words and the beautiful party” she organized.
The eighteen-year-old prince also thanked many of his peers who attended the ceremony. “It feels really good to be surrounded by so many peers,” he said.
“A lot of people have high expectations.”
Christian also discussed the “high expectations” placed on him and his contemporaries. “A lot of people feel like they can’t live life the way they want. But in reality, we can only be who we are. You may not be the funniest or the smartest in the class, but you are something else. We don’t have to be the best to get On a place.”
Frederick and Mary’s eldest son also looks forward to the future and all that it will bring. “I can’t deliver perfection, because perfection is anyway, but I can promise dedication,” Christian said.
“I will give everything I have and learn everything I can. I have to find my way, even if it leads to a familiar place. I have roots in many places in the world and I love to travel. But home will always be there because I love my country.”
Princess Amalia wore historic jewellery
Princess Amalia wore a special historic tiara for the first time at the ceremony. It was a diadem whose stones served as a pendant or were part of a pendant forty years ago. Amalia’s dress was designed by Essentiel Antwerp.
The princess also wore blue Manolo Blahnik shoes and had a so-called trellis necklace, also known as a honeycomb necklace, around her neck. Queen Emma commissioned this jewel around 1901 for her daughter Wilhelmina, who married Prince Hendrik on February 7 of that year.
