Bas de Groot, KNMG emergency physician at Radboud University Medical Centre, will be appointed Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Emergency Medicine Research Center at Aarhus University Hospital in Aarhus, Denmark, effective January 1, 2024. He is the first emergency physician to hold the title of Professor in the Netherlands.

Bas de Groot investigates how doctors can better assess risks with the help of so-called Early warning score. He would like to apply this throughout the emergency care continuum, for example in the ambulance or in the emergency room. If doctors recognize the signs better, treatment and outcomes will improve.

It is important that the scientific field of emergency medicine be expanded further. This branch of science can answer questions that will make acute care more accessible and improve its quality in the future. Strengthening the international network is essential.

De Groot will remain 75% affiliated with Radboud University Medical Center and will expand its scientific activities here. He will lead the research center in Denmark. The Emergency Department is proud of this appointment and wishes Bass every success in his research.
