Highway works are essential for safety and to increase the life of roads. This will be accompanied by some traffic disruption, although every effort will be made to minimize this.
In this way simultaneous major road works in the same area are avoided and diversion routes are pre-screened. Strict safety measures are taken at highway plazas. One of these is checking that drivers are adhering to the speed limit and there will be a strong focus on that.
The relevant minister appealed: “We ask drivers to respect the speed limit and the traffic light. And to exercise extreme caution when approaching the construction zone.” Lydia Peters (Open Vld) Reference.
Speed in the yards will be monitored using mobile controllers, semi-fixed speed cameras and manned controllers.
