Android Auto’s new animations remind us of something…

Android Auto is very popular. It makes sense, because suddenly you’re making your car’s display prettier and smarter. Google keeps rolling out updates, and the changes to Android Auto’s UI look very familiar to us…

Connect your smartphone to your car using a cable or Bluetooth and you can navigate using Google Maps, reply to messages with your voice and use Spotify. This is Android Auto, the smart system that is now standard on Android smartphones.

Google’s Gemini AI has also found its way into the car. It can now (or later) summarize messages for you and suggest answers. All without you taking your hands off the wheel and keeping your eyes on the road.

Not all Android Auto updates are big and radical. Sometimes it’s a small addition, like the animation Gemini gives when it “talks” to your car.

When you interact with Android Auto, you’ll see this in the bar at the bottom of the screen. The text there will appear in Google colors. We’re now testing a new animation when the Assistant is waiting for a response.

If you’ve read a little bit about Siri updates, you’ll see that Google’s animations are somewhat similar to Siri’s. It wouldn’t be a complete coincidence, since both teams are looking at each other, of course. It’s eye-catching.

We don’t yet know when or if these animations will reach every Android Auto user. Google appears to be testing it among a small group of users at the moment.
