Japanese game console manufacturer Nintendo will soon release a successor to the Switch. This is the first time in nine years that Nintendo has released a new gaming console.
Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa announced the news via Twitter and it is not yet clear when exactly the announcement will be made.

The gaming world has been waiting for news about the new Switch for a long time. Since the Switch went on sale in 2017, Nintendo has sold more than 140 million units worldwide, but sales numbers have been declining for some time.
Although Nintendo ended its most recent fiscal year with greater sales and profits than the previous year, the company expects results to decline for next year due to increased competition from companies like Microsoft and Sony.
The goal was to hit Nintendo’s next gaming console on shelves this year, but that plan has been postponed. As a result, Nintendo has to make do with the now-obsolete Switch during the end-of-year holidays, the most important period of the year for the company.
Furthermore, the company will probably no longer announce any new major games. These titles are not expected to arrive until a Switch successor is available.
