Greek Spoor hopes to climb into the top 20 in the fall
North America’s Talon Grekbauer is back with his highest rating yet. The 27-year-old tennis player rose to 24th in the world rankings after the US Open. He hopes to be able to advance further with tournaments in the fall. “Twenty-fourth, that’s what I signed up for, but I’m hoping to get into the top 20 this year,” says Greg Burr.
“I’m doing well this year,” the tennis player said before the group stage matches of the Davis Cup Finals. Greek Spoor started the calendar year by winning the tournament in Pune in India and also won the grass tournament in Rosmalen. He reached the finals in Washington in August. This has led to a steady rise in the world rankings, with 24th place being the current highest point.
After his week at the Davis Cup Finals, Haarlmer continues his season in Asia. “I will play in China in Beijing and Shanghai and then I will play for another three weeks in Europe. That means at least five or six tournaments after the Davis Cup. I hope to play in the Davis Cup finals after that,” he added.
Greekspor still sees plenty of opportunities to move up the rankings. “It’s possible. I don’t have any points to defend, because I didn’t win a match at the end of last year. I hope I can take advantage of that.”
