Demi Shores has reached the women’s doubles quarterfinals for the third time in her career at the US Open. The best female doubles player in the Netherlands, with her American partner Desira Krausek, beat Marta Kostjok of Ukraine and China’s Zhang Shuai in the third round. The score was 6-4, 6-4 for Schurz and Krausek.

For the 29-year-old, seeded 6th in New York, this is the first time since the start of last year that she has passed the third round at a Grand Slam tournament. She then reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open, a tournament she missed this year. She has only won two Grand Slam matches this year.

Schurz, who did not make the final battle at the Grand Slam, is number 16 in the world.

Kolhof

Wesley Koelhoff and his British partner Neil Skopsky reached the quarter-finals of the men’s doubles at the US Open. Koulhoff and Skopsky in New York 7-6 (5) 3-6 6-3 were too strong for Australians Matt Ebden and Max Purcell, who surprisingly won Wimbledon this summer.

Kolhof (33) and Skopski (32), who is second, will face Brazil’s Marcelo Demolliner and Joao Sousa of Portugal in the quarter-finals.

Two years ago, Koelhoff reached the final of the US Open with Croatian Nikola Miktic. With Skupski, he is not yet past the quarter-finals at the level of the Grand Slam.
