Italy will partially shut down again due to high pollution figures. The government decided this after a week of consultation with the Scientific Advisory Board and local authorities. The stricter new measures are sure to be in place over the next three and a half weeks, right up until the day after Easter.
All areas where the yellow code is now applied, and where catering service is permitted to open until 6 PM, and museums are open during the week, will change at least to the orange code. This means that the food industry and museums will close again, as will some high schools. The orange code applies in the regions of Abruzzo, Calabria, Liguria, Sicily, Umbria, Tuscany, South Tyrol and the Aosta Valley.
Only with an indication on the street
More than half of Italy will end up in strict lockdown (symbol red) due to the high level of pollution. This means that non-essential stores and all schools must be closed as well, and people can only take to the streets with good reason and location. The red symbol applies in the Marche, Lazio, Veneto, Piedmont, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Mulise, Puglia, Trento, and Campania.
This strict lockdown will be enforced across the country during the Easter holidays. Easter is one of the most important holidays in Catholic Italy, with Italians visiting family or taking a stroll in the park with groups of friends. With the red symbol on April 3, 4 and 5, the government wants to prevent people from meeting too often and the current third wave from reproducing.
Critical limit exceeded IC
