Women’s championship
Anas Jaber easily qualified for the quarter-finals of Roland Garros. The Tunisian settled for two sets with the American Bernarda Pera. He became 6-3 and 6-1.
For Jabeur, this is the first time she has reached the quarter-finals at Roland Garros. “Twice before I was in the fourth round, twice I couldn’t advance,” she said after the match. Jabeur was a losing finalist at Wimbledon and the US Open in 2022.
Jaber, ranked 7 in the world, will compete in the quarter-finals against Brazilian Beatrice Haddad Maya, ranked 14 in the world. Maya won in three sets over Spain’s Sarah Sorribes Tormo: 6-7 (7) 6-3 7-5. The match lasted nearly 4 hours and was just short of the longest women’s match ever at Roland Garros.
Demi Schors, along with her American doubles partner Desirae Krawczyk, failed to reach the quarterfinals of Roland Garros. Schurz and Krawczyk lost fifth in the round of 16 to Su Wei-hsieh of Taiwan and China’s Xinyu Wang, who won the match 7-6 (6), 6-4.
Schurz never got past the third round at Roland Garros. She has reached at least the quarter-finals in the other three Grand Slam tournaments.
Schurz (29) was the only Dutch tennis player in women’s doubles in Paris.
