Fimk Paul won the 400m at the FBK Games in Hengelo with force majeure. The 23-year-old from Amersfoort scored 50.11 at the sold-out FBK stadium. This was a FBK Games record, which has been set at 50.88 since 2018. Paul’s time was just over half a second above her Dutch record (49.44 seconds).
So Paul stayed above 50 seconds, but she proved last winter during the indoor NK in Apeldoorn, when she ran 49.26 and broke the 41-year-old indoor world record of Czech Jarmila Kratochvilova (49.59). The books are out.

Paul ran her first 400m of the season in Hengelo. You won’t run much there, because the focus is on the 400m hurdles. She wants to try to win the world title for that song in Budapest this summer. She won the 400 hurdles in 52.43 last Friday in Florence with force majeure. This was her 14th consecutive Diamond League win.
“I’m only human and I can’t always live up to the high expectations,” Paul said shortly after the race. ,, I run my best times when I’m not feeling right the whole race. This feels very good. But I thought it was cool to walk around here in a packed stadium. Really, the crowd gave me a huge push to give it my all in the last 100 metres. 50.11 is my third time ever.”
Nick Smidt confirmed his fine form by finishing second in the 400m hurdles. The 26-year-old clocked from 49.17 seconds, just above his personal best. Much faster was American CJ Allen with a 48.24. However, Smidt was content, even though attacking Harry Scholting’s old Dutch record (48.44) from 1979 wasn’t an option. “For years I thought I could do it and this season I think it’s really possible,” he said after his race at the nearly sold-out FBK.
Smidt set his new world record of 48.70 in Oordegem in Belgium last weekend and with that time earned himself entry to the IAAF World Championships later this summer in Budapest. “It feels good, it gives you freedom. Last season I was so busy collecting points for the world rankings that I didn’t have to do that anymore. Now I can focus on that national record. We still have 0.26 seconds to go.”
It didn’t work out for Hengelo, despite the favorable conditions. “There was wind, but I didn’t feel it. I made some mistakes in the lanes over the barriers and I got out of my rhythm a little bit. It might have something to do with the pressure, because this is the biggest competition in the Netherlands.”
Nadine Visser
Nadine Visser started her season well in the 100m hurdles. The Dutch record holder finished second, scoring 12.71 points. American Nia Ali won in 12.61. Maayke Tjin A-Lim finished seventh, with a time of 13.16.
Visser had already qualified for the World Cup in Budapest, but she didn’t run that fast in her first steeplechase of the outdoor season. Her Dutch record is 12.51. Last winter she suffered a slight disappointment at the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul. She was able to win the gold medal in the 60-meter hurdles for the third time in a row, but had to take the silver. “The first hurdle was a little ‘in the air’, so to speak, that was a bit of a shame,” Visser said after the race. ,, but I’m glad, because usually in the first race it’s still a bit of a search. This is my fastest season opener ever, so that’s only good.”
Fbk log
American athlete Grant Holloway ran the fastest 110-meter hurdles ever at the FBK Games. The two-time world champion ran 13.03, which makes him four hundredths faster than Cuban Dayron Robles in 2011 (13.07). Holloway clearly jumped over the ten fences in a full FBK course and stayed ahead of compatriots Devon Allen (second in 13.12) and Eric Edwards (third in 13.29) at the finish line. Dutchman Tim Koster finished eighth with a time of 13.78 seconds, while multiple Dutch champion Quinn Smit finished ninth with a time of 13.85 seconds. They are no closer to the World Cup in Budapest this summer.
