Volleyball player Anlène van der Meer will stop at Friso Sneek after this season, with whom she currently plays in the national championship.
The 23-year-old striker takes a step back. She will play at Feracles in her hometown of Groningen. The club competes in the First Division, Second National Level, and is coached by its partner Paul Osterhoff.
Van der Meer made the decision because she wants to graduate next year. So she can train less than what is required for Sneek in the Premier League. In recent months, she has also noticed that she is no longer able to fully enjoy sports due to too much training, travel, and study.
Van der Meer also said goodbye to Sneek last year. Then due to switching to Genk in Belgium. She returned three months later, in part because Genk had not fulfilled the financial agreements. At Sneek, she secured another starting spot during the season.
Dutch championship
The Sneek volleyball players will play their third final against Utrecht on Saturday. The score is 1-1. The team that wins the first three matches is the Dutch champion. Snake won the title in 2016 for the tenth time and so far for the last time.
In addition to Van der Meer, Lisan Siemonsma also stopped at Sneek. This is matched by the arrival of Fleur Wiersma and Nink Hofstede.
Coming from Bolsward, Wiersma returns from her studies in America, which she combined with playing volleyball in the highest competition for university teams. Hofstede (also a central striker) comes from Eredivisie player Zwolle and previously played for Belgian club Asterix Beveren.
