LEGO launches Atari 2600 Building Kit on August 1st – Games – Geeks
I was allowed to visit the Lego factory (in Billund) twice for my previous employer and I can assure you that Lego has surprisingly good production processes and continues to invest in innovations. This includes intelligent quality control, standardized data collection, real-time analysis of injection molding machines, innovation in decoration methods and materials, and the use of vegetable plastics. But most importantly, Lego is insanely good at developing molds (eg moulds) to make plastic parts within the strange tolerances set by Lego. They also guard those who die with their lives (and in a huge vault).
Some of these innovations + tolerances are also needed; After all, the range, complexity and variety of stones are increasing (personally, I find this sometimes unfortunate). Just think about all the color combinations, changing materials and/or changing moldings. And then they also have to master this (I think) three factories all over the world!
So yes, perhaps making the building blocks is getting cheaper (although raw material prices don’t help), production in Europe is only possible through continued investment and innovation. And Lego does this, of course, by investing in digital products (games, movies, etc.) and in their own communities.
The nice thing is that the atmosphere inside Lego (the factory + offices) is really very good; You can really find Lego figurines and blocks everywhere (also in the factory, for example to create bar charts on a KPI board).
Anyway, this is my LEGO promotional talk 😉
