Matthew Wilson is a British post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Astrophysics, Geophysics and Oceanography at the University of Liege. The university reported that he died on January 16, while on vacation in Atlanta.
Wilson was in Atlanta to visit Catherine Shepherd, the woman he had been in a relationship with for three years. He was sitting on the bed in her house when he was suddenly shot in the head by a stray bullet.
Before he was injured, Shepherd went to look out the window because she heard gunshots. When she heard some loud explosions, Shepherd went to look through the window. “I told Matthew I would call the police,” the woman told the British newspaper. the sun. “Go ahead,” he said, “although I’m sure they’re just messing around.”
“I saw right away that he was injured.”
Immediately after that, another shot was fired. “I heard a little explosion on the side of the bed,” says the American woman. “I remember when a piece of the wall hit my leg. When I turned on the light, I saw that Matthew had collapsed. I immediately saw that he was hit in the head.”
The woman did everything she could to stop the bleeding and called 911, but all the help came too late. “I begged him to stay with me, but nothing could help him.”
Wilson died in hospital of his injuries. So far, no suspects have been arrested in the shooting.
