Will Europe and the United States be able to avoid a recession in 2024?

Many major banks expect a recession in the United States in the first half of 2024. In Europe, a recession is almost certain.

Why is this important?

The resilience of the US economy and, to a lesser extent, the Eurozone, has certainly surprised many analysts in 2023. However, they are not ruling out a recession in 2024, on the contrary. The good news for markets is that a recession means central banks will cut interest rates more quickly.

In the news: Europe and the United States face the risk of entering a recession.

  • There are dark clouds hanging over the Eurozone. Just three weeks ago, the European Central Bank predicted there would be no recession this year, but analysts are no longer so sure. For example, European GDP grew by just 0.6% last year. There may already be a (technical) recession.
