Van ‘t Wout thrilling World Cup win at 1500m in Salt Lake City | other sport

Jens van ‘t Wout caused a major upset at the World Cup in Salt Lake City. Laren’s short tracker was the best at 1,500 metres.

The way Van Wout beat his opponents in the 1500m final was amazing. He sped four laps before the end, took the lead and held it to the end. It was his first World Cup victory.

The 21-year-old Van ‘t Wout is a talent on a short path, but a World Cup win was not immediately expected of him. Last year he was stranded at the Beijing Olympics in the 500 and 1000 meter races. Van ‘t Wout was not eligible for the 1500m at the time.

Sjinkie Knegt finished fifth in the final B over 1500m in Salt Lake City, while Friso Emons was eliminated in the semi-finals. In the 500-meter race, Millie Van Woot (brother of Jens), Kai Huisman and Itzak de Lat could not break any pots.

Dutch women had little reason to cheer in the American city on Saturday. Only Michelle Velzebourg was able to reach the final. She finished fourth in the 1500m.

The mixed relay final is scheduled for later in the day. Sunday is the closing day of the World Cup weekend in Salt Lake City.
