OranjeLeeuwinnen started the World Cup with three points. On Sunday, Portugal were beaten 1-0, although the scoreline could have been bigger. Daniel van de Donk failed to score and ensured the final blow.
“A good chance. You can say that, yes,” she said later NOS. “If you don’t make it the second one, it’s always exciting. And I definitely blame myself. You have to make one more, and then I think you can play football a lot more calmly.”
Van de Donk left after eighty minutes. “I think they were building me up, I haven’t played ninety minutes in a long time and I thought it’s great, I can’t do it, I gave it everything, so I recovered a bit and went on to the next one,” said the number ten. Next game is against USA.
“It’s nice that you continue with the three points, it’s always good. We have confidence and now we can continue playing football. The nerves of the first game are not in our minds now. We can go full speed in the second game. I think we can handle America”, it sounded optimistic.
