Republican patrons gathered for dinner yesterday at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida. “We met tonight to talk about the future of the Republican Party and what we need to do to help our candidates win,” Reuters news agency, which saw the former president’s speech, quoted him as saying.
Occupy the White House in 2024
“I stand here tonight with complete confidence that in 2022 we will restore the House and that we will restore the Senate. And then in 2024 a Republican candidate will take over the White House.” It was not clear if Trump meant himself by that last sentence. He said earlier that he would not rule out running for president again.
Last year, Trump lost the election to Democrat Joe Biden. There are more candidates within the Republican Party who might want to confront Biden in 3.5 years, such as former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Before that, all 435 of the House of Representatives seats and 34 of the 100 seats in the Senate will be voted on in November 2022. There is a lot at stake especially for the Democrats, who now have a small predominance in both houses. If they lose, it will be difficult for Biden to implement his policies.
