Top American gymnast Simone Biles may run until the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Biles, 24, who won four gold medals at Rio 2016, had previously said the Tokyo Olympics would be her last.
However, the gymnast said in a digital media day for “Team USA” that her French coaches Laurent and Cécile Landy had asked her to go to Paris in three years.
“Right now, my entire focus is on the Tokyo Games,” said Biles, who was the most successful gymnast ever at a World Cup with 25 medals (nineteen of them gold). After the games we will be on a US tour with all the girls. I am very interested in that. What will I do next? We need to see that. Cécile and Laurent are from Paris and have more or less an obligation to return at least as an instrumentation specialist.”
Two years ago, Biles said Tokyo would “definitely” be her last Summer Games, due to her injury exposure in her sport. “I generally never get out of pain. You get a little used to minor injuries. My body has been through a lot already. Sometimes I feel like I’m falling a little bit down.”
The American was the big star at the Rio Games with four gold medals. Only on the crossbar, on which Sanne Wevers took gold, had to settle on a different color (bronze).
Another American sports great, Allison Felix, confirmed on the media day that “Tokyo” will definitely be her last match. The 35-year-old may be around for a while, but Paris 2024 is a long way from it. “I don’t see myself doing other Olympics,” said Felix, who wants to go to the Games for the fifth time next summer. The specialist in the 200 and 400 meters races has six Olympic titles in his pocket and three silver medals.
