Today, Sonos is bringing back the missing app functionality to a new app after two months.
Sonos released a new app a couple of months ago. It’s prettier and works simpler, but all sorts of basic functionality was missing, which angered users. Now many of those features are back.
Sonos launched a new app in May, which now acts as a sort of home screen for all your various audio apps. It’s useful for controlling all sorts of Sonos speakers, but it also turns out that the app no longer has much of the same stuff as its predecessor. An alarm clock function, for example, or the ability to play local music files from a NAS drive.
Users reacted angrily, but it took a few weeks before Sonos CEO Patrick Spence dared to admit that the updated app had been released too quickly. This is in line with complaints from users who had already tested the new app in beta and pointed to Sonos for lacking features.
Update restores functionality
Today, many of these features are being added to the updated app, two and a half months after its release. Local music library playback is now supported again. Sonos users who have a large NAS drive with their music can now connect that drive back to their system and search through it.
The already missing sleep timer was added to the new Sonos app in the latest update. It’s located below the three dots in the playlist. Today’s update also adds volume settings, which are also important. Notifications for speaker firmware updates, auto-play of the line, compression settings, and access to settings. More updates will be rolling out next month, which should include playlist editing.
More from Sonos and never miss a thing with our Bright app.
