The US military has confirmed the presence of a nuclear-capable submarine in the Middle East. Central Command (Centcom), which is responsible for the region, published a picture of the “Ohio”-class submarine, apparently sailing in the Egyptian Suez Canal near the Suez Canal Bridge. US Central Command also published a photo of a long-range B-1 nuclear bomber that is also operating in the Middle East.
The United States rarely confirms the location of the Ohio-class submarine. This is because the US Navy’s class of ships is part of the so-called nuclear triad, which describes three types of nuclear weapons: land-based ICBMs, air-based delivery systems, and ICBM submarines. However, many Ohio-class submarines are equipped with cruise missiles and can be deployed with special forces. It is unclear whether the submarine operating in the Middle East carries ballistic missiles with a nuclear payload. The United States has previously deployed submarines in the region and confirmed its presence amid escalating tensions with Iran.
The Ohio-class submarine is a class of nuclear-powered submarines used by the United States Navy. It is designed primarily for strategic deterrence and has multiple roles:
1. Strategic nuclear deterrence: These submarines are equipped with armed ballistic missiles…

Ohio-class submarines are the largest American nuclear submarines. It can carry nuclear missiles such as the Trident-2, guided missiles such as the Tomahawk subsonic cruise missile, and advanced underwater torpedoes such as the MK-48 ADCAP. The Ohio-class submarines are the deadliest and most powerful submarines ever built for the U.S. Navy. The video below uses 3D animation to explain in more detail how this powerful submarine works.
