The United States and the Netherlands discuss a ban on exporting ASML chip machines to China Economy

The Netherlands and the United States are expected to discuss restrictions on the supply of chip machines by ASML to China this month. Bloomberg News reported this based on conversations with insiders.

The US wants to increase pressure on the Netherlands to stop exports to China of ASML, although sources do not expect an agreement to be reached. For example, the Netherlands has previously expressed concerns about the strict US export ban against China, especially in the field of chip technology. ASML is an important player in this field.

ASML is currently not permitted to sell its more advanced UV devices to China. These matters are becoming increasingly important to Veldhoven. For example, ASML received orders worth €8.9 billion in the third quarter. Of this amount, €3.8 billion were orders for UV equipment.

Other products may continue to be sold as normal, meaning ASML’s deliveries are less restricted than those of US competitors. According to an insider, the conversation will be part of ongoing consultations between the United States and the Netherlands, which also discusses other topics related to technological cooperation between the two countries.

Sources had previously told Bloomberg that America would hold discussions with the European Union about joint action on sanctions against China.
