The Dutch, who played MLB players Xander Bogaerts, Mariekson ‘Didi’ Gregorius, Andrelton Simmons, and Jurickson Profar, among others, trailed 0-1 after two innings. And Gregory Roger Bernadina hit a home run in the next game (1-1).
The Kingdom team made the difference with three runs in the sixth inning. New York’s Josh Palacios took advantage of the rematch and blasted Gregory under pressure. Moments later, Chadwick Trump hit a ball straight between the Cuban fielders with the tip of his racket, after which Jonathan Shoppe and Josh Palacios entered 4-1.
Cuba did something in the seventh with Yoelkis Guibert, but the Orange didn’t have any more problems after that.
The World Baseball Classic (WBC) is the only international baseball tournament in which highly paid professional players from Major League Baseball (MLB) are allowed to participate. This event is being held for the fifth time.
The first edition was held in 2006 and was won by Japan. This country successfully defended its title in 2009. The Dominican Republic was the best in 2013, and in 2017 the United States triumphed. Orange has reached the semi-finals in the last two editions.
Tomorrow at 05:00 Dutch time, Panama will be the next opponent for the Netherlands. Taiwan and Italy are the other two opponents in Group A.
