The minister leaves thousands of resilient students outside in the cold

Universities of applied sciences, universities and student organizations want Minister Dajkrav for Education, Culture and Science to clarify flexible learning as soon as possible. This method of studying means that the student pays for each course credit. But the minister decided to end the experiment.

The invitation comes from the Consortium of Universities of Applied Sciences, Universities of the Netherlands and student organizations LSVb and ISO. According to the Rector of Universities in the Netherlands, Peter Duisenberg, this type of study is particularly interesting for people who cannot study full-time due to personal circumstances. This pertains, for example, to casual sponsors and top athletes who have to go to a tournament and cannot earn any credits during that time.

This group consists of about 2,000 students. According to Duesenberg, despite this limited number, the special arrangement is beneficial. This experiment began in 2017 at the request of the House of Representatives. Following a proposal by the VVD and PvdA, this will be enshrined in law. But despite the fact that the reviews were overwhelmingly positive, the plug was pulled. Three colleges and three universities participated in the experiment.

It is not clear to the universities why the amendment to the law has not yet been implemented. “It is not clear to us,” says Duisenberg, “during the talks in the spring it was said that the law would later be presented to the Sejm.” As a result, it is not clear to the 2,000 students participating in the experiment whether they will be able to continue their studies after the summer.
