Jamil Samuel will not participate in the World Championships in Athletics next month. The thirty-year-old Dutchman will start the 4x100m relay, but the Athletics Federation has doubts about her fitness and has appointed Nadine Visser as a substitute.
Samuel wrote with disappointment: “I recently missed one relay match due to a history of injury. Instagram†
“I made this decision well thought out and for the good of the team, with the idea that I would be as fit as possible to go on to the World Cup. The Dutch coaches did not agree with this and they kicked me out of the team.”
Turning events hurt Samuel. “It makes me sad. I don’t feel like I’m going to take the World Cup from me in this way. I really wanted to be there for my team, but unfortunately that’s not possible.”
At the previous World Cup, which was held in Doha in 2019, the Netherlands did not break the series in the 4x100m race with Samuel, Nargilis Statia Peter, Marej van Hoenenstein and Naomi Sidney. This time around Samuel will form the core with van Hohenenstein and sisters Naomi and Zoe Sidney, but will be replaced by Visser, who also runs the 100m hurdles.
The World Athletics Championships will be held in Eugene, USA. The event begins on Friday 15 July and runs through Sunday 24 July. The Dutch team consists of 35 athletes.
