Jamil Samuel banned from participating in the World Championships in Athletics: They kicked me out of the team | other sports

Jamil Samuel will not compete next month at the World Championships in Athletics in Eugene, USA. Earlier this week, Samuel was selected by the IAAF for the 4x100m relay team. However, the union has reversed that, according to the 30-year-old runner’s Instagram report.

“Unfortunately I received a call today that I am not going to Eugene. The Dutch FA has decided that I am not fit enough for the team,” Samuel wrote on Wednesday evening. “I canceled one relay race because I was concerned about my fitness due to my injury history. There is often a risk in doing too much.” of racing in the last weeks before a major championship.”

I made the decision carefully, with the idea that I would be in the best condition imaginable for my team. I made the decision for my team because I didn’t want to risk an injury. The Dutch coaches disagreed and kicked me out of the team in favor of Eugene.”

The Dutch athlete is disappointed with this decision. “It is wrong to take these championships from me for the wrong reasons.” Samuel further stated that she is now focusing on the European Championships in Munich in August. Individual competitions will also be held.

Athletics Federation: All athletes should have adequate physical fitness

According to technical director Ad Roskam, the athletics federation has taken her out of the World Cup selection primarily as a precaution. Ultimately, we should be able to count on all the athletes on the team to be fit enough to participate in the tournament. In preparation, we have a preparation program with the relay team, which runs from the weekend of the Dutch national championships to the World Cup. This includes a number of competitions, joint training courses, and a preparatory training camp in America,” Roskam explains.

One of those matches was the Diamond League Thursday night in Stockholm. On Tuesday, Jamila called after relay training in Pappendale and told her she would not be able to compete in Stockholm. She was also not able to perform a large part of the training sessions, because the Dutch national championships caused a strong reaction to the Achilles tendon. ”

Because we don’t have a very wide women’s relay team, partly due to the retirement of Daphne Schippers, for example, the question was whether Jamil would be fit in time for the World Cup. This is partly why we decided to stop the process here and solve it in a different way.”
