Nicaragua has severed its diplomatic ties with Taiwan and re-established ties with China. It would be a setback for the United States as China expands its influence in Latin America and further isolates its ally Taiwan.
Nicaragua sent its two sons, its finance minister and President Ortega, to the northern Chinese city of Tianjin to confirm the deal.
